His Gift

Unforgettable, Book 1

Two rules: Don’t mix business with pleasure, and don’t fall for someone who’s hiding something.
I broke both the moment I met her.
After surviving cancer, I thought I’d seen it all. Then Kneshel Stine walked into my life—smart, stunning, and determined to keep her distance while we organize the town’s Christmas toy drive.
By day, she’s the composed doctor everyone admires. By night, she’s the woman I can’t stop thinking about—the one who gave me one unforgettable night, then pushed me away.
She says it's just physical attraction.
I know it's something deeper.
She insists we keep things professional.
I'm ready to show her how good breaking the rules can feel.
But Kneshel has a secret—one that could tear everything apart. And when the truth comes out, I’ll have to decide if love is worth the risk… or if some betrayals are too big to forgive.

The conversations flowed around us, but I was acutely aware of Kneshel’s proximity, the scent of her perfume, the occasional brush of her arm or leg against mine. Each accidental contact sent a jolt of awareness through me.

“Hey, Kneshel!” Lena, a stunning woman with waist-length locs and a musical island accent, called over to the woman by my side.

Kneshel looked up in response to being called.

Lena continued speaking. “Have you met any interesting men yet?”

My ears pricked up. I was curious to know the answer.

Kneshel laughed and said, “All the interesting men in this town are already taken!”

The women laughed knowingly. Hazel Wesson—Trina’s younger sister and Isaac’s wife—said, “I’m sure it can feel that way.”

Kneshel gestured towards Hazel and Sherri and said, “I moved to Valleyfield too late. You girls scooped up all the entrepreneurs, lawyers, and the only other doctor in town. You left nothing for us single ladies.”

The women giggled.

Lena tilted her head and said, “Well, not all of them! Lamont here is still available.” She winked at me. “He’s handsome and, not to mention, has control of everyone at this table’s money.”

Kneshel glanced dismissively at me and said, “Oh, he’s not my type.”
